Doch de Heere zeide tot Samuël : Zie zijn gestalte niet aan , noch de hoogte zijner statuur , want Ik heb hem verworpen ; want het is niet gelijk de mens ziet ; want de mens ziet aan, wat voor ogen is , maar de Heere ziet het hart aan.

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Et dixit Dominus ad Samuelem : Ne respicias vultum ejus, neque altitudinem staturæ ejus : quoniam abjeci eum, nec juxta intuitum hominis ego judico : homo enim videt ea quæ parent, Dominus autem intuetur cor.

Aber der HErr sprach zu Samuel: Siehe nicht an seine Gestalt noch seine große Person; ich habe ihn verworfen. Denn es gehet nicht, wie ein Mensch siehet. Ein Mensch siehet, was vor Augen ist, der HErr aber siehet das Herz an.

But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For not what man sees, for man looks at the eyes, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”

But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Yes, Eliab is handsome and very tall, but this should not impress you, since he is not the one I have chosen. I do not evaluate people as humans do. Humans evaluate people by their appearances, but I evaluate people by their character.”

But the LORD said to Samuel , “Don’t look on his face , or on the height of his stature , because I have rejected him ; for I don’t see as man sees . For man looks at the outward appearance , but the LORD looks at the heart .”

But Jehovah said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for Jehovah seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looketh on the heart.
